Laboratory testing for reliable soil and water analysis

Laboratory research is a crucial step in the preparation and execution of projects in construction, infrastructure and industry. Using advanced measurement methods, we map the mechanical, physical and chemical properties of the subsurface.

At SOCOTEC, we carry out the following investigations, among others:

• Geotechnical laboratory investigations: test rigs for determining bearing capacity, compressibility and deformation behavior of soil samples.
• Geotechnical characterization: classification of soil according to international standards such as USCS and DIN, based on grain distribution, density and water content.
• Index tests: such as Atterberg limits, specific gravity and moisture content - essential for proper soil classification.
• Strength and deformation tests: including triaxial tests, compression tests (oedometer) and direct shear tests.
• Water laboratory: analyses of water samples for chemical composition, contaminants and suitability for drainage or discharge.
