SOCOTEC WINS HUGE TENDER FOR DAMAGE ASSESSMENT IN GRONINGEN EARTHQUAKE AREA

The Groningen Mining Damage Institute (IMG) has entrusted SOCOTEC's experts with carrying out the assessment of damage to homes in the region of Groningen. The contract will be for a period of four to six years.

Social impact

From 2026 onwards, approximately 100 structural survey specialists and additional staff members will be working on this project. SOCOTEC's experts will carefully record all damage to homes in the earthquake zone during the second phase. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Groningen Mining Damage Institute (IMG), an independent administrative organization established in 2020 that is responsible for handling damage caused by earthquakes, subsidence, and ground subsidence due to gas extraction in the Groningen field, as well as gas storage in Norg and Grijpskerk. This work is crucial for the residents of Groningen and Drenthe who have been affected by the earthquakes. SOCOTEC is proud to contribute to the resilience of the region and the recovery of earthquake-related damages in structures & buildings.

Expertise and collaboration

Starting 2026, SOCOTEC will carefully record all damage to homes, with a team of structural survey specialists. The assignment will be carried out by SOCOTEC Surveying & Monitoring teams, the new division of SOCOTEC that combines the expertise of SOCOTEC Bouw Risico Management (formerly known as Hanselman) and Vermeer Expertise, recently acquired by SOCOTEC. The award of this project confirms SOCOTEC's expertise and commitment to risk management and asset integrity.
