In July 2025, SOCOTEC Nederland carried out architectural surveys in the Spoorbuurt neighbourhood in Nijmegen on behalf of contractor Infrascoop (a sister company of Ploegam). These surveys are part of the preparatory work for the redevelopment of the public space in this neighbourhood, which started after the summer.
Important information
Projectname: Spoorbuurt redevelopment, Nijmegen
Date: from 14 July to 18 July 2025
Client: Infrascoop (a sister company of Ploegam)
Location: Spoorbuurt, Nijmegen
Purpose of the architectural recordings
An architectural survey is an objective record of the condition of a building before work commences. This is done by means of photographs and a written report. This documentation serves as a reference point in the event of alleged damage during or after the work.
Although the risk of damage is limited, the surveys provide clarity and certainty for both the client and residents. Any damage claims can thus be assessed and settled in a transparent manner.
Phased implementation of work in the Spoorbuurt neighbourhood
The municipality of Nijmegen has been working with residents and stakeholders for some time on a future-proof design for the neighbourhood. In August 2025, the contractor Infrascoop (a sister company of Ploegam) started the work.
This includes renovating the sewer system in Koolemans Beynenstraat, Obrechtstraat and Dunklerstraat to prevent flooding during heavy rainfall. This work is expected to continue until the end of 2025.
In the spring of 2026, network operator Liander will begin replacing the electricity grid. This will be followed by the redevelopment of the public space, addressing issues such as subsided paving, tree root problems, traffic safety and drainage.
Contribution from SOCOTEC Netherlands
By carrying out the preliminary structural surveys, SOCOTEC Netherlands is making an important contribution to the preparation of this project. Our independent recordings provide a solid basis for handling any damage claims fairly and carefully. In this way, we contribute to the transparent implementation of infrastructure projects and a safe living environment for all involved.
