Projects in the construction and infrastructure sector are never without risk, both for the project itself and for the surroundings.
Knowledge of and experience with these risks are decisive for the project’s success, particularly if it concerns constructing the foundations of all kinds of buildings and infrastructure such as waterways and roads, bridges, tunnels, flood defences (locks, weirs, dikes) and cables and pipelines. This requires a sound analysis of the project risks and its impact on the surroundings.
From (pre)design through to the final acceptance
Every project requires good foundations! That starts with a soil investigation, followed by sound advice for the foundation, construction pit and an assessment of the impact of the work planned on the surroundings. SOCOTEC’s engineers specialise in this work and will support you with high-quality investigations, design and construction advice for amongst other things foundations on piles, retaining constructions and flood barriers (pile walls, sheet pile walls, grout constructions, etc.), construction pits, reinforcement of flood defences, etc. The work’s impact on the surroundings (buildings, infrastructure, the environment, etc.) is also seriously taken into account.
We are happy to assist our clients with analysing the technical and contractual risks, not just with regard to geotechnical and geohydrological issues, but also to assess the structural design and construction of buildings and infrastructure within the context of project quality control.

Thus we offer Technical Inspection Services (TIS) within the framework of VGV / IDI insurance and the planned implementation of the Quality Assurance for Building Act (WKB - Wet kwaliteitsborging voor het bouwen).
We can carry out a property development scan (VOS) in a very early stage of project development, using our own database with background information and public sources to provide insight into the main aspects / risks that need to be taken into account if a project is developed at a particular site. This includes insight in the soil construction, foundation method / pile length, groundwater levels, any contamination of the (ground)water present, the state and foundation method of adjacent buildings and infrastructure, restrictions as a result of (groundwater) protection zones, etc.
To build is to manage risks
Experience shows that it is worth monitoring the risks identified when executing construction work. SOCOTEC offers a wide range of services for the mitigation of project risks by determining them beforehand (for example with a structural survey of the surroundings and a monitoring plan), measuring them and evaluating them. In this way, the work can be adjusted on time if the measurements give cause to do so.
We have our own measuring equipment and experts to install it, to monitor the measurements (remotely) and to discuss with if the measuring results give cause to adjust the work.
