The Netherlands is one of the most densely populated countries in the world, which presents a major challenge with regard to new constructions, nature and the living environment.
These challenges require an integrated approach to determine and mitigate the risks at and surrounding your construction site. Identifying the risks in advance and monitoring the different work during the execution of the project will reduce the failure costs and avoid stagnation.
SOCOTEC can provide every kind of surroundings monitoring work to ensure your project runs as safely and efficiently as possible. In addition to surroundings monitoring, we will also be happy to offer advice about identifying the possible impact on the surroundings of the intended work. SOCOTEC can offer you the entire spectrum of geotechnical services, so that mitigating measures can already be taken at an early stage and the monitoring during the project is entirely customised to the client as well as any residual risks.
SOCOTEC carries out not only monitoring but also quality controls in the field. Our firm can be deployed as an independent third party or for additional expertise; SOCOTEC offers support in both the field and the office. For example, checking the soil improvement applied for a home, supervising the pile driving for wind farms, plate load tests for distribution centres or acoustic tests on foundation piles. Furthermore, as a firm SOCOTEC is certified by KCAF [Dutch Knowledge Centre for Handling Foundation Issues] for carrying out foundation inspections. Our report in your dossier proves you have determined the quality of the foundations.

As a society, it is essential to have insight into the groundwater level. With the challenges ahead as a result of climate change and an increasingly urbanised country, being able to monitor the groundwater levels during every project is invaluable. SOCOTEC offers the possibility of both long-term monitoring over the course of several years and short, project-driven monitoring when applying dewatering or water barriers. The groundwater is monitored using extensive networks in standpipes, with or without access to the data via an online portal. The water pressure is furthermore measured when there is a risk of rupturing or insight is required in the water pressure in deeper.
SOCOTEC can draw on over 45 years’ experience in geotechnical soil surveys. We have our own equipment (including drilling rigs) to install any kind of measurement system for monitoring in the underground and have highly-trained and experienced geotechnical engineers and hydrologists working within our organisation.
